We stood no chance against what was up there. Warheads were prepped, launchers positioned, alliances formed with our historic enemies, and all in the name of survival. Each ship was given a target designation by the military. NORAD counted three hundred and seven ships. The riots lasted three months, but when the saucers didn’t descend, fear turned to curiosity. Like moths crowding a street lamp, the saucers came, and they did nothing. Other than knocking a few weather satellites out of orbit, they did nothing. They never came down to make their intentions known. They had a theory because the saucers never landed. The possible reasons for their arrival was obviously a mystery, but everyone had a theory.

It was a scientific expedition come to study us. The conjectures we’d expected were tossed around. Politicians stampeded CNN and FOX and Al Jazeera in an attempt to calm the people, but we could see it clearly in their eyes. Scientists with Twitter accounts, conspiracy theorists, and theists from every religion flocked to social media to voice their fears and theories. The question of are we alone in the universe had received a resounding answer of: N o, we are not. It was the biggest news event in the history of mankind.
